US Navy P6 Catapult

1/32 scale US Navy P6 Catapult

Here are some photos of a 1/32 scale US Navy P6 Catapult that I scratch built.

I used some photos from a book by William Larkins (Battleship and Cruiser Aircraft of the United States Navy). I converted the measurements from a 1/72 scale P6 Catapult by Attack Squadron. The railings are made from 1.5mm music wire cut in sections and soldered. The rest of the catapult was designed using SketchUp on a MacPro. I printed my design on a MakerGear 3D printer. It took me several tries to get it right. The design consisted of dozens of separate files. The top runway is single sheet of styrene with music wire runners. The frame is realistically covered with O-scale rivets. The railings are attached with styrene tubes and rounded staples. It took me about 2 months to complete this project.

If you have a 3D printer, some soldering skills, and lots of patience, you can download the .stl files and instructions to make your own catapult.
